Knowledge Sharing in Online Communities among Peers: Behaviors, Motivations, and Perceptions

摘 要：Exploiting the random assignment of college roommates, this study examines peer effects in knowledge sharing in online communities from three aspects: behaviors, motivations, and perceptions of the features of knowledge shared online. Results show that peers’ average knowledge sharing behaviors, especially the aggregate level of contribution, play a strong and positive role in determining an individual’s corresponding behaviors. Individuals are also positively affected by peers’ non-monetary motivation to share online, as well as their perceived importance of fast delivered information. Moreover, we provide evidence that peers’ perceived features of knowledge shared online affect individuals’ knowledge sharing behaviors, and individuals’ online knowledge sharing are positively affected by peers’ offline contribution decision. Further analyses reveal heterogeneous peer effects by the type of online communities, gender, Hukou type (rural vs. urban), and college major.
主讲人介绍：邓卫广，湖南大学经济与贸易学院副教授，湖南大学岳麓学者，湖南大学民建经贸研究院研究员，民建湖南大学委员会委员。本科硕士毕业于中山大学，2014年博士毕业于香港中文大学经济系。主要研究兴趣是劳动经济学、行为实验经济学、文化经济学、公司治理。近年在Journal of Population Economics、China Economic Review，《经济研究》、《经济学》季刊、《经济科学》、《劳动经济研究》等SSCI和CSSCI 权威期刊发表多篇学术论文，出版著作《中国大学生成长行为调查报告》。担任Journal of Development Economics, Journal of Population Economics, Journal of Comparative Economics, China Economic Review, Economic Modeling,《经济学》季刊，经济科学等SSCI、CSSCI期刊匿名审稿人。主持国家自然科学基金面上项目1项，省部级及校级科研项目多项。主持大型微观数据调查“中国大学生追踪调查”和“中国代际关系调查”，并主持多项田野实验调查。中国劳动经济学者论坛理事会理事，并担任2019-2020年中国劳动经济学者论坛理事理事会秘书长，全球劳动组织（Global Labor Organization）会员（Fellow）。
